Despite giving up 9 powerplays to the Portland Winter Hawks the Vancouver Giants came out on top 6-2 thanks to two goals and an assist from Michal Repik.

Portland opened the scoring at the 6:00 of the first on a goal from Matt Sokol before the Giants rattled off two goals to end the first period up 2-1. Repik scored first at 7:32 and then set-up defenceman Brent Regner for a powerplay goal at 12:11.

Some sloppy defensive zone coverage by the Giants gave the Winter Hawks another powerplay early in the second period and Tyler Swystum took advantage and tied the game at 2-2 at 1:51. but only four minutes later James Wright scored his first of the season, a powerplay marker, to give the Giants a lead they would not relinquish. Spencer Machacek scored at 19:39 to finish the second period.

Repik scored his second goal of the game at 4:51 of the third and new Import Juraj Valach got his first goal as a Giant with an impressive top shelf slap shot at 15:14.

The game featured two fights. In the first Garet Hunt responded to a hit from behind by Portland defenceman Ty Ariss and put on an impressive showing considering it's Hunt's first fight since breaking his femur last February. Hunt takes a unanimous decision. In the second fight newcomer Chris Cloud squared off against Viktor Sjodin after he felt the Swedish forward took liberties on a hit on Jon Blum. Cloud wins a surprisingly close fight.

GiantsBeat.com Player of the Game: Michal Repik. His stat line for the night tells most of the story. 2 goals, 1 assist and a +2 rating. The Import phenom was all over the ice tonight and could have had a few more points had other Giants finished plays. Once he gets back on his regular line with Lucic and Wright it looks like Repik could take a serious stab at leading the league in scoring.
